how to be a good ib student and not die in the process?

About Pre-IB and IB

It’s important to talk about how to be a good student but also, have a good life too, with this phrase I’m referring to have a good balance between study and personal activities for taking care our mental health. In this moment I’m an IB student, and I’m not the star of the class but I’m a good student. So, by the theme identities I’m going to talk and give some tips to have a health balance between our education live and personal moments.

In my school process I have always obtained good grades, and I got angry every time I didn't get a 100, however when I started with the IB I realized that I could make mistakes, and I had to understand that it was no longer the same. As students, we know that getting an A on homework is thought to mean you're on the right track, but it also means you start waiting for validation of a grade.

So, like a first tip I can say, DON'T BASE ONLY ON RATINGS.

Yes, is so important to obtain good grades, but when you start with a new education process it’s obvious that you can’t start knowing all, so probably your grades can be not the same, and what u need to do? Focus on your progress, to start stay focused in how you can improve your knowledge, and after that practice to have a good grade.

For example, I remember when I start with my Ib progress, I thought that all phrases of “it’s different” “don’t be mad with you caused by your grades” and all of that was a lie, but I can say to you that is true, and I achieve improve, when I understood that.

On the other hand, taking care of our mental health is very important, for that reason like a second tip I say CREATE A ROUTINE SCHEDULE.
Schedule Conflicts: How to Deal with Them and Benefit from the Challenge

In my first year I didn’t take care of my time, and that makes me feel stressed because sometimes I forgot my personal activities for don’t have a schedule or routine that reminds me what I must do. Fortunately, I never forget homework’s but for example, some of my partners suffer that for the same reason and they have bad consequences so, create a schedule and write all your week activities.

In conclusion, balancing your academic responsibilities with personal is essential, especially in the demanding environment of the IB program. Remember, it’s not about being perfect or always getting the highest grades; it's about progress, learning from your mistakes, and focusing on your personal growth. Success is about finding balance, so make sure to prioritize both your education and you along the way.

  1. Thanks for sharing this! It’s helpful how you point out that being an IB student doesn’t mean being perfect. I really like the tips about NOT just focusing on grades, but seeing progress, and making a routine so you don’t burn out.

If school ever becomes too hard, remember: talking to someone who understands can make a difference. If you’re in Dallas, a psychiatrist in Dallas TX might help you find ways to handle the pressure.
